CHAPTER 7 You will be debt free (except for taxes and a few other debts) in about three months.

Chapter 7 is often called a Consumer Bankruptcy or Liquidation. Most people that file a Chapter 7 are burdened with credit card debts. All of your credit card debts are wiped out in a few months and you have a clean start.

Normally you can keep your house and a car. The day your case is filed all of your creditors are prohibited by law from calling you or contacting you in any way. The main restriction to filing Chapter 7 is the income limit of about $45,000 for an individual. It is higher for a married couple.

Total cost between $1,300 and $2,000. Most cases are closer to the lower number but for cases with more complex issues the cost is higher. In addition the lower cost will depend on how diligent you are in providing me with the required documents in a timely fashion. Up to $400 of that cost may be completely waived in some circumstances.
